Last Sunday was the last day of the VII Simposio internacional de arqueologia at the Pontificada Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima. The conference definitely had a greater focus on arqueology than linguistics, but even so, during the course of the three days, it forged the beginnings of a bridge between the two disciplines.

According to the Peruvian Times, the Regional Council in Puno passed a motion to rename the department the “Quechua and Aymara Autonomous Federal Region”, originally spearheaded by Aprista party Yunguyo province representative Neyellko Gutiérrez Quispe - though denouncement quickly followed from Lima bureaucrat and constitutional expert, César Valeg as well as Congressman Yonhy Lescano.
