Andean news roundup

Many cave paintings were rediscovered by Peruvian archaeologist Olivera in the Toquepala caves of the Western Andes in Utcubamba province. [link]
Pre-Incan cemetary and citadel found in the Bagua Grande region. Also found:  circular stone dwellings, a variety of tools. [link]

Pre-Inca ruins destroyed, damaged

Quecha and Aymara Autonomous Federal Region

According to the Peruvian Times, the Regional Council in Puno passed a motion to rename the department the “Quechua and Aymara Autonomous Federal Region”, originally spearheaded by Aprista party Yunguyo province representative Neyellko Gutiérrez Quispe - though denouncement quickly followed from Lima bureaucrat and constitutional expert, César Valeg as well as Congressman Yonhy Lescano.
