Andean Aymara

Compendio de noticias de los Andes

January 20th, 2010 · No Comments

It’s been a while since I posted any news from the Andes so here’re some headlines:

  •  The ILAP (Peruvian Amazon Research Institute) will open an office in Loreto to thwart coca-growing operations promoted by Columbian traffickers. Coca leaf production has increased in Loreto with the recent collapse in the region’s lumber industry.
  • The world Bank’s Board of Directors has approved an additional grant of US$450,000 to help Peru’s efforts to strengthen Andean ecosystems and mitigate the deleterious effects relating to glacial retreat.
  • The Peruvian government claims it can reach zero deforestation in only ten years with Western funding
  • Tres muertos y dos desaparecidos por desborde de río en Huancavelica.
