Although most linguists are aware that the first official language of the Incas and of Cuzco (or however you want to spell it) was Aymara, this is not a fact widely recognized by non-Andeanists. In fact at the last symposium at the PUCP (Lima), some German researchers (sorry, their name escapes me at the moment, I’ll update this later) who were doing a genetic study of the human remains of the great city confirmed that the original inhabitants were indeed Aymara (the same goes for Nazca, incidentally).
In any case, José Gabriel Chueca did an interview with Cerrón-Palomino on just this topic on the Linguistics Blog (in Spanish).
