Had the chance to visit the linguistic department at the University of Utah last February and was really impressed with the impressive faculty, friendly students, and great resources. This is definitely an ideal opportunity for prospective students.
On behalf of Lyle Campbell:
We (Dept of Linguistics, University of Utah) expect to have 2 or 3 Graduate Research Assistantships beginning Fall 2010 for research on language documentation and revitalization projects involving American Indian languages, some in the Great Basin here and others in Latin America. For the Latin American projects, knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese would be a big advantage to prospective candidates. We invite applications for these awards and for admission to the graduate program here.Information about the Linguistics program can be found at:
http://www.hum.utah.edu/linguistics/?pageId=3415.
Information about application procedures can be found at: http://www.hum.utah.edu/linguistics/?&pageId=3494.
Please note that the deadline for application is Dec. 15, 2009 (for International students it is Nov. 30, 2009). I am sorry the deadline is so soon!
Additional information is available on the CAIL website (Center for American Indian Languages): www.cail.utah.edu.
These are exciting projects, with a good bunch of excellent students already involved. We very much hope we get other good students to help with these projects and to study here. Many Thanks,Lyle
