AndeanAymara is very grateful to SystemC for the generous donation of much-needed school supplies. These materials will be distributed to the students of Muylaque and Sijuaya later this year where they will certainly be put to good use.
Thanks a lot!

Mulaq Aymara structure: Part I
February 10th, 2009 · No Comments
I’ve been meaning to introduce more linguistics to this blog, so let’s jump right into it. First things first though, sorry for the disorganization. I’m not going to start by analyzing morphemes, words, declarative phrases, interrogatives, etc etc… Actually, this blog will sort of dive into the topic, full speed ahead. OK, now for a [...]
Follow-up: Von Däniken, pseudoscience, etc.

Apparently, according to the correspondence regarding the “documentary” mentioned below, the film was going to make some suggestions about the origins of Tiwanaku. For an intelligent and educated counter to such bogus claims, check out “Ancient Tiwanaku” (Cambridge University Press) by Janusek, from the “Case Studies in Early Socities” series.
In fact, Janusek tackles this issue [...]

Just last week, a researcher from Prometheus Entertainment wrote me asking for permission to use photos from this the website in a documentary which he claimed involved an examination of South American indigenous cultures. Naturally, I was intrigued; I thought that this may be a good forum for these pictures. Fortunately, before signing on, I [...]

Herzog documentary in Machu Picchu
February 3rd, 2009 · No Comments
Herzog has returned again to Peru, the land where he filmed two excellent films, Aguirre der Zorn Gottes in 1972 and, a decade later, Fitzcarraldo both with Klaus Kinski. Apparently he is filming near the Vilcanota River (AKA Wilcamayu/Huilcamayo, Urubamba) in Cusco’s Sacred Valley. This should be good…

New film: “Why Save A Language?”
February 3rd, 2009 · No Comments
The Regional Learning Project announced the release of another documentary directed by Dr. Sally Thompson (University of Michigan) which seems like it may be interesting, though I’ve yet to see it.
According to the description on the project website:
Tribal languages are disappearing at an alarming rate. This film reviews the history of indigenous language loss, documents [...]

New version of ELAN now available
February 2nd, 2009 · No Comments
There is a new version of ELAN now available for download. This program can be used to annotate video and audio so as to better analyze spoken/sign language and gesture. I don’t know of any study on Aymara that used this software, though I wonder of Nunez’s study could’ve benefited from it.
In any case, you can [...]
