Hello from Moquegua. The fieldwork continues productively, I’ve succeeded in interviewing a variety of people from all walks of life and from various villages. That’s the good thing about being in Moquegua – it is sort of a melting pot of locals who come here to visit their families, take care of bureaucratic needs, or to sell something.
There’s been a lot of progress in this project, though I confess to not having done as much as I would have liked to. As with any interesting study, the more you learn, the more questions arise. Aymara is a very difficult puzzle. I’ll share some results here sometime later.
Tomorrow morning returning to Muylaque, this time with gifts for my generous hostess, Maria . I’ll be brining all kinds of kitchen supplies as well as two hares (pictured below) which I bought at the animal market this morning and are now hopping around the bathtub in my hotel room.
